Andrea’s New Job and New Students

Our computer problems in the start of 2008 kept me from posting some very big happenings at the time.  The biggest news of the first quarter of 2008 for us was that Andrea changed jobs!

When we first arrived on Cayman she worked for a dive operation that I won’t name here (although you could probably find if you searched the archives), and they were awful.  They were poorly managed, didn’t pay attention to safe diving and teaching standards, and didn’t treat their employees particularly well.  Andrea made the best of the situation, but it was far from ideal.

In late January, she decided that she’d had enough, and went in search of a new job.  Finding jobs in the dive industry can be tough, but because she is such a superstar she actually got a few job offers right away.  After weighing her options, she chose to become the head instructor and teaching operations manager at the Lobster Pot Dive Center!  This was a great opportunity for Andrea, as she was given the chance to run the teaching operations at the shop.  She has risen to the challenge, and really loves the job, and is a great dive instructor!

During her few months with Lobster Pot, Andrea has had the opportunity to teach a lot of kids to dive.  Kids up to the age of 15 can get certified as Junior Open Water divers.  Personally, I don’t love teaching kids, and I try to avoid those assignments when kids are getting certified through my shop.  But Andrea genuinely enjoys teaching kids, and has done a number of Junior Open Water courses.  Here are some photos of her and her students:

So if you’re looking for a good dive instructor, you have two choices here in Cayman:  Andrea at Lobster Pot Dive Center or Steve at Eden Rock Dive Center!

Congrats Andrea!

But, really, fidning a job in the dive industry is not as difficult as it once was. Jobs4Divers.com is a new, free job site for the diving industry and in just the 6 weeks since its launch is now the largest database of dive jobs on the web. Check it out!
