Return of The Duffy

One of the hardest things about moving to Grand Cayman has been parting with our dog, Duffy.  There is a ton of paperwork and administrative BS involved in bringing a dog on island, he has to get a ton of shots and vaccinations, and it is just a big hassle.  When we first moved down last month, I tried to get all of that done and bring Duffy with me right off the bat.  However, I was unsuccessful in chasing down all of the paperwork, and our plans to bring him were foiled when our landlord informed us that he wouldn’t allow the dog to live with us in the apartment.

It was with much sadness that we came down without Duffy, leaving him in the good hands of Andrea’s parents, Gladys and Andrew.  They took great care of Duffy, feeding him, giving him some love, and even letting him hang out up on the couch with them!  They even helped Duffy make some new friends, and sent us pictures of him and his buddies.

Even though we knew Duffy was in good hands, we missed him lots, so earlier this week I made a very quick trip back to New York to get Duffy and bring him down!  We had finished up his paperwork (thanks to lots of help from Gladys), and we had moved to a pet-friendly apartment (that is bigger and much nicer than our first apartment anyway!), and so we were ready for Duffy’s arrival.

The trip to New York and back was hectic.  I flew through Miami airport, which was quite an experience.  I felt more like I was in a foreign country when I was in Miami than I do here in the Caymans.   I was the only person in the airport who wasn’t speaking Spanish!  Once I got up to Westchester, I went on a mini shopping spree, stocking up on goods that are either hard to find or are super-expensive down here.  My parents drove down and we met for a quick dinner, which was very nice, and then the next day I headed right back down to Cayman.

Even though he was very happy with Andrea’s parents, Duffy was excited by the thought of being reunited with us, and was anxious to come down here.  He even did all his own packing!

Our travel day on Wednesday was BRUTAL, with delays and missed flights, but Duffy continued to show why he is the best dog ever!  He was nice and quiet and well-behaved, and was the perfect little travel dog.  After being stuck in his little travel bag for almost 12 hours, we finally arrived, and Duffy was rewarded for being so good — after almost two months without her he finally got to see Andrea!  Needless to say, both of them were very excited (and I was very tired!).

Duffy is settled in and is doing well, and we are thrilled to have the littlest member of Team Schmoop back with us again!  And all of Team Schmoop sends special thanks to Gladys and Andrew for the great care they gave to Duffy, and for all of the help with the paperwork and entry requirements for him!

Keep an eye out for more posts soon, including new blogs from Duffy (he likes to get on the computer and keep himself entertained while we are at work)!

GO TEAM SCHMOOP!

Even I, who greatly dislikes small dogs, has to admit that Duffy is one of the cutest dogs ever. Glad that your little family is all together again. ~M
