Stingray City

The one “must dive” of the Cayman Islands is Stingray City.  This is a world-famous dive site where you get to swim with, and feed, stingray.  It started when fishermen used to clean their fish on a shallow sandbar, and the stingray would come to suck up free dinner.  These feedings been going on so long now that the stingray have become domesticated, and they come swarming when they hear the boat engines approaching.

Stingray City is on the interior sound (the North Sound), and my dive shop is on the south-west corner of the island.  As a result my dive shop does not run regular trips to Stingray City, as it is about a two-hour boat trip.  Andrea’s dive shop is on the north side of the island, and for them it is a quick ride out to see the stingrays, and so they run trips out there a few times a week.

One of Andrea’s divers took some pictures on a recent trip to Stingray City, and they are worth sharing. The first few are of Andrea, and the rest are just some cool pictures of the stingray with other divers.  Check these out!
