Cayman Arrival and Dean Preparation

Greetings from the Cayman Islands!  I arrived on Thursday, joining Andrea, who has been down here for a few weeks now.  And of course, my timing was perfect, as hurricane Dean is on the way and currently projeted as a direct hit on Grand Cayman.  I’m glad to be down here with Andrea (I’d feel terrible if she was here alone), but neither of us are excited to have to deal with Dean.  Hurricane Ivan was devistating down here back in 2004, and people here are preparing for more of the same.  Andrea spent her day today (Saturday) helping to haul over 500 tanks from her shop into a safe place.  Tomorrow I’ll be going in to work to batton down the hatches and do everything I can to secure my shop.  We’re happy to be on island, but like everyone else, we’re not excited about Dean, and hoping it changes course.  Fortunately, we are well prepared, and we have tons of water and food and other supplies.  Now we just need to weather the storm.

So this is just a quick post to let all of you know that we are here in the Cayman Islands, safe, happy, and enjoying our jobs very much!  We will be without internet access (and power and water, for that matter) for the next few days, but I will post and send some emails once I get back online (hopefully soon after Dean passes through).  Keep an eye on the weather and hope that Dean misses Grand Cayman and that the storm does not end up being as bad as predicted!  And, of course…..

GO TEAM SCHMOOP!
