On Saturday night, I went out with friends and family for a little going away party! We went out to see a musician named Milo Z. Here’s a picture of me and him:
Milo Z and his band are AMAZING! In the 9 years or so that I’ve lived in New York, I’ve probably seen between 100 and 150 Milo Z shows, and I’ve enjoyed every one. He is a funk musician, along the lines of James Brown or Parliament Funkadelic. His songs are catchy and fun, and the jams are amazing. He has a fantastic horn section, and in most songs every horn player gets a solo, and each song ends up being a 10-15 minute jam. Here’s a clip of one of my favorite songs, Get Up (sorry the picture is dark in these videos – the lighting wasn’t ideal, but the music is still amazing, so give a listen!):
The other thing I love about Milo Z is the “call and response” aspect of the songs, a staple of his funk music style. Here is some of his crowd interaction and call and response during his song Body:
Here’s another call and response clip during the song Get Up:
Unfortunately Andrea was sick and was unable to come out, but she was missed (she is still sick the day after, but is on the mend). Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out to send us off in style! I appreicate it! For those who weren’t able to make it, we’ll just have to get together next time Andrea and I come back to NYC.
